IGP Côtes de Thongue: a Mediterranean terroir ideal for rosés

Located in the Hérault department, between Béziers and Pézenas, the Côtes de Thongue IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) extends across a terroir that contributes to the rich diversity of Languedoc's wine heritage. The vineyard benefits from a typically Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers tempered by maritime influences and local winds. The unique appeal of this IGP lies in its mosaic of soils. Here, Villafranchian terraces, clay-limestone soils, and rolled pebbles alternate, offering a pedological resource suited to a wide range of grape varieties.

The rosé wines of the Côtes de Thongue IGP derive their character from this unique combination, where the rich geology resonates with the Mediterranean climate. Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah, traditional grape varieties of the South, are naturally favored for their freshness and vibrant fruitiness. Other varieties, such as Mourvèdre and Carignan, and even more northerly varieties like Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc, contribute their own structure and complexity. This diversity of grape varieties greatly expands the aromatic range of the rosés. Marked by notes of small red fruits enhanced by floral and mineral touches, these wines retain a lovely vivacity on the palate.
