Taking root on the borders of the Landes and the Atlantic Pyrenees, the vineyards of the southwest follow one another to the foothills of the Massif Central. Under oceanic influence and benefiting from the proximity of the Pyrenees, these wine-growing lands form an archipelago of appellations which ends at the eastern limit where the Occitanie region switches to a Mediterranean climate. The great wines of the South-West are named Madiran, Cotes de Gascony, Fronton, Cahors ou Gaillac. All are presented as so many specific terroirs that produce very different wines. Forming islets across the territory, each appellation is distinguished by the geological quality of its soil and the native grape varieties that characterize it.
